About the Site
The London Electricity Board headquarters was constructed in the late 1950s. The building was sold in 1990 and used as offices for Tower Hamlets Council. It has been dilapidated, underutilised and largely unoccupied for several years.
The railway viaduct runs along the west of the site, but the arches are closed off to the site. The site has a frontage along Cambridge Heath Road but the buildings are set back from the street.
The site sits directly opposite Bethnal Green Library and the path with an avenue of trees through Bethnal Green Gardens. To the north is a terrace of shops that is within the Bethnal Green Conservation Area, and to the south are modern medium-rise buildings.
